Acute pain is usually the result of some kind of accident, procedure, or trauma. Acute pain is characterized by shooting or sudden sharp pain. While this may sound scary, acute pain can be remedied in six months or less when addressed by your veterinary care provider.
Chronic pain is typically a result of a lasting health condition such as arthritis, diabetes, or cancer. Chronic pain is usually something that a pet will live with their whole life, since it’s caused by long-term health conditions. In cases of chronic pain, our intent is not to eliminate pain, but rather mitigate it. Our goal in these cases is to keep your pet’s pain levels as low as possible and do our best to keep them comfortable and content.
